Sol
The sun.

Created in Houdini for some FX practice. All procedurally generated, except for the prominence on the side (which is a sim)

Homeward
I've finally finished another project that's been sitting on my hard drive for months! Getting snowed in for a week IS an effective motivator, I guess. This scene was inspired by photos of airliner cockpits, and the space shuttle. I used to love designing cockpit layouts with Lego when I was a kid, so I guess this is an extension of that.

River Church ('infrared')

A month or two ago I was driving back from the Washington coast and I passed some sort of building along a stream. It wasn't actually a church, but what it looked like out the corner of my eye looked very idyllic. Since the scene wasn't actually what I thought it was at first, and I couldn't stop to take a picture even if it was, I decided to recreate the idealized one in 3D. As I was doing some scene tests with this, the preview plants didn't have any textures resulting in bright white grass and leaves. It reminded me of false color infrared landscape photos, which are often post-processed to have an all-white snowy/dreamy look.

Long story short, I decided my original idea wasn't very interesting and figured I'd try and mimic a false-color infrared photograph instead. There's no actual IR rendering, of course. Just some careful textures and post-processing. I hope you all enjoy it!

Summer Still Life
Still life composition has always been a bit of a nebulous mystery to me, so I tried my hand a making one to get a better handle on things. I'm pretty happy with the result.

Holy hell, I should've done this years ago. I just kept putting up with a silly workflow of storing things in iPhoto and exporting them individually to Photoshop. Considering Aperture is only 80 bucks, I really wonder why I waited so long. It's a great upgrade, with a proper adjustment set, more flexible layout, but still fits nicely for those used to iPhoto.

Pick it up. $80 in the Mac app store. Well worth it if you are already managing your stuff with iPhoto.

I saw your comment on the discussion about Poser vs. DS. As for a real 3D app is there anyone in particular you would recommend? Newbie

Maya, Blender, 3DS Max, Cinema 4D, Houdini, Softimage...

Anything really. Just make your own assets and do things properly instead of posing dolls (and paying out the nose for them, I might add)
